The Music Behind the Games
An interview with Kári Sigurðsson, the composer for the upcoming game Cry of the Infected.
10 Most Important Games We all have games that we will remember forever for different reasons. These are mine.
The Music Behind the Games Kári Sigurðsson is the talented composer of the music for Cry of the Infected, as well as several other upcoming games from our studio. I pulled Kári away from his music long enough to do a short interview with him:
What made you decide to study music?
Since I was a kid I always was interested in making my own music. I didn't really know how it worked, or what people used to make it, so learning all that was very fun for me. Creating music is the most fun I can imagine.
How/why did you choose the first instrument you learned?
The first instrument I learned was the guitar. I knew I wanted to learn an instrument, but I hadn't really found what instrument i was interested in, so I thought a guitar was a good place to start. I don't play it as much as i used to but I still pick up my guitar from time to time and play around with it.
Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Various trance and orchestral composers, Mendelsohn has inspired me greatly for orchestral music.
How do you describe your music?
I prefer to leave the describing to other people :D
What advice would you give to fellow musicians?
Listen to what other people say about your music. Listen to songs other people have made and find something in them you don't know how to do, and then learn to do it. It's very fun and you usually learn something new :)
What are the biggest obstacles for artists?
Getting bad reviews for songs you really like is hard for me.
What type of music do you enjoy playing the most?
I like making trance and orchestral music, both have different qualities I really like.
What do you do in your spare time?
Study, play games, make more music, sleep.
Thanks Kári! You can find Kári's soundtrack to Cry of the Infected in our Music section.
